Up until about a month ago, I had tried almost every possible intake method there is; flower, tincture, edibles, vape carts and RSO syringes. I have been somewhat leery of trying dabs. I see torches and bangers and carb caps and dab tools and anxiety starts to trickle in. That is…until now.

Thanks to trusted budtenders at one of my fav local dispensaries, I am now dabbing and it has taken my medical experience to a whole new level. But let me preface this by saying I am dabbing, but not in the traditional form. Those same trusted budtenders also educated me when it comes to newer forms of dabbing devices, mainly the electronic devices made by Puffco. The same day I bought my first two grams of concentrate, I also bought the Puffco Plus. And now I am all-in on dabbing.
So here is what I have discovered. First and foremost, dabbing offers me the longest duration of effects. I can intake my first dab at 10pm and still feel some small effects the next morning after a solid 7 or so hours of sleep. That is a huge deal to me. A small dab offers longer lasting effects than simply smoking flower.
The longer lasting effects led me to my second discovery…dabs appear to be way more economical. An eighth of flower (3.5grams) produces about 3 nights worth of enjoyment (@3-1gram joints with a little left over for a bowl or one-hitter). A gram of concentrate has lasted me over 2 weeks. I know that will differ a ton for each and everyone of you depending on tolerance etc, but you can apply your own joint-to-dab ratios and I bet you discover the same thing. And another aspect of how it is more economical, when you dab, there is virtually little to NO waste. Think about that the next time you roll a joint and sit there watching it burn between puffs. So my personal experience means that I am saving a lot of money per sesh with dabbing vs consuming flower.
Third and last discovery was the taste. The taste is intense, which makes sense since it is a concentrated amount of cannabis that you are consuming. One of the reasons I do NOT like to use a bong with flower is that it takes all the taste away…to me. I get this huge amount of smoke but the water filtration seems to take a lot of terpene flavors away. That is my opinion and I know some will 100% disagree, but I tried several times to use a bong and I can’t ever seem to get the taste profiles to come through. That is NOT the case with concentrate. The taste is full-bodied to say the least and the terpenes seem to stay intact.
The only negative I have experienced so far in my dabbling into dabbing is that my lungs are having a hard time adjusting. Smoking flower never sent me into a coughing fit like vaporizing concentrate has. This may be solely because I am using a concentrate pen vs an actual dabbing rig. I had mentioned that I am using a Puffco Plus. This is more of a dry vaporizing experience. The pen also means that the distance the newly heated concentrate has to travel is very short which does not allow for any of the vapor to cool off before hitting my lungs. That is the only real negative I have found so far with my intake device of choice.
However, the positives of the Puffco Plus truly outweigh the negative so far. The “pen” is so easy to use. Just add your dabbed amount of concentrate, hit the button twice for sesh mode or simply hold the button down while inhaling for more of a micro-dose. The device comes with 3 settings (blue, green, and white). Blue is the coolest while white is the hottest. I have been mainly using the green setting which offers a good amount of vapor as well as keeping a lot of the flavor. And when it comes to cleaning…the device is super easy to maintain between sesh’s.

So there you go. I am a dabber now. This does not mean I will abandon flower all together, but for sure my budget will be more skewed towards purchasing concentrate from now on. What about you? Are you a dabber? Do you also still consume a good amount of flower even when dabbing? What is your device of choice for your dabs? Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback.
