It’s a fact that so many people here in the US still view marijuana through the stigma-darkened glasses of the Federal Government. Marijuana has been on our planet since creation. It’s been used for centuries to treat and/or cure all sorts of ailments and conditions. I will avoid the history lesson in order to keep this post shorter and more readable but I encourage you to simply look up some of the early ways marijuana was used for the betterment of society before governments got involved.
A government funded film was put out back in the 1930’s to show how “evil” marijuana was if left unchecked in any society. And the stigmatizing of weed began. Now when you hear weed or pot, so many conjure up images of someone who is a stoner or a “pot head.” And once the Feds attached a class 1 narcotic label to it and declared it illegal, the stigmatizing was complete.
But let’s look at some simple facts first. As they were making weed out to be “bad,” they were also creating a society completely reliant upon big pharmaceutical companies. We are a Country that is more and more addicted to pills that are “legal” thanks to the powers of government that make a literal killing off of these drugs and their related stocks. You have a headache? They have a pill for that. You have a headache and need some sleep? There is a pill for bedtime headaches. There is a pill for daytime headaches. There is a pill for heartburn or indigestion or insomnia for depression for muscle aches for anxiety etc etc. You name it, there is a pill for it.
Have you ever read the pill bottles to see what side effects you can expect? They come in all forms such as dry mouth, drowsiness, irritability, upset stomach, blurred vision and so on. These FDA “approved” pills are all synthetically produced and are not healthy for the overall body except for the conditions they are relieving. In fact, Drs and drug companies seldom mention the idea that so many of these pills can be taken away from the patient. For most, the pill(s) will become a normal part of their remaining life.
The reason we will never see the FDA approve marijuana for the simple fact there is not enough money in it for them. It grows naturally. It grows in all sorts of climates. Someone can easily grow it at home alongside their tomato plants. Big pharmaceutical companies will fight it forever and continue to try to stigmatize it because if it were ever “proven” to treat and even cure some of the things we users already know it does, the pill industry would start to tank.
So here are some more pertinent facts. Before there was Tylenol PM or NyQuil Daytime or Oxy or Prilosec, there was weed. Not only does weed pre-date any and all well known pills of today, it was already being grown with a daytime and nighttime strain. Indica (nighttime) and Sativa (daytime) help patients throughout the entire day. And when you compare ingredients…well…there is no comparison. Marijuana is just that…marijuana. Just like oregano is…oregano. No additives needed. And side effects consist of things like being happy, laughing, feelings of euphoria, sleepiness, focused, hungry, cotton mouth, red eyes etc. Take out a bottle of Tylenol and compare the side effects and see which one sounds more natural to you.
The truth is, there are bunches and bunches of us out there that enjoy marijuana and have a better quality of life than those hooked on pharmaceuticals. We cross all demographics. Some are successful business people. Some are soccer moms. Some are high profile athletes and singers. Some are church goers and God-fearing believers. The reason you may not know that is simply because of the stigma weed still has and it’s time for that to go away.
Those same people who still want to stigmatize weed are the same ones who enjoy their cocktails and beers and even in excess. The difference is, someone who likes drink alcohol is never called an alcoholic until they are in such a bad way that they can no longer hide their addiction. Alcoholics can kill other people along with themselves. Alcohol is the number one DRUG used in the USA, but it has no stigma. But the fact that no one ever and I mean ever has OD’d from too much marijuana is not discussed.
So before I beat this horse any further beyond death, let’s just sum it up by saying there is no reason weed should still have any stigma attached to it today. In fact, we should be yelling its benefits from the mountain tops. It is curing thousands upon thousands of people and it’s time we get that great news out to the masses. Hence…this blog and my reasons for creating it.
